Western Sydney data campus

State

New South Wales

Market

Data Centre

Scope

Bar, mesh, prefabricated cages

Duration

26 months, four halls

A hyperscale programme that could not wait on steel.

Four data halls delivered in sequence on a single Western Sydney
campus, each with its own slab cycle, plant deck and structural
programme running in parallel. Reinforcement had to arrive
processed, tagged and in placement order, into a site with no
laydown to spare.

The challenge

The builder was coordinating three reinforcing suppliers across the first hall, and every variation meant a new schedule, a new delivery slot and a new conversation.

Three reinforcing suppliers across one hall, each with a separate schedule

Slab cycles running in parallel with no float between pours

No laydown area — material had to land in placement sequence

Compliance documentation required per delivery for the client’s reporting

Our approach

IBR took the full reinforcing package from hall two onward —
detailing, manufacture, processing, prefabrication and delivery under one programme and one project manager.

01

Early engagement with the design team

IBR detailers worked from the structural model before hall two was let, resolving congestion and lap detailing ahead of fabrication.

02

One schedule across the whole package

Bar, mesh and cages scheduled together and released against the site programme rather than against three separate supplier lead times.

03

Prefabrication off site

Pile caps and column cages assembled at the IBR facility and craned straight into position, cutting tying labour in a congested slab.

04

Delivery windows to the pour plan

Tagged, bundled and sequenced deliveries into nominated windows, with a named project manager holding the plan.

“By hall three we stopped managing reinforcement as a risk. One schedule, one delivery plan, one person to call.”
